TAMPA, Florida – Marlon Huynh was a fan of the Tampa Bay Lightning from the start. Like many others, watching the team win the Stanley Cup was a big deal.
“Just my heart was in my throat, just waiting for the last second,” he said.
He is a caricature artist by profession. Just a few days before the big win, he captured some of the emotions with a cartoon by Lightning broadcaster Dave Mishkin, he said to pass the time.
“You have reached the top of the mountain! You are the Stanley Cup champions!” Mischkin can be heard in a video that the Blitz posted on Twitter.

“Only every time he says, ‘Score! ‘It’s the same phrase and I’ve decided to hold onto that,’ said Huynh.
He says it’s gotten increasing attention on social media so that’s what he decided to do Selling prints of the drawing and donate ten percent of the profit to the Lightning Foundation for purchases made by October 14th.
Elizabeth Frazier, the executive director of the Lightning Foundation, wrote in a statement:
“Marlon Huynh’s cartoon of Dave Mishkin does a wonderful job of capturing Dave’s passion and spirit for the Tampa Bay Lightning, especially when the team scores goals on the ice. We are so grateful that Marlon is returning the proceeds of its sales to the Lightning Foundation. Dave and his family are regularly involved in the community, and using the platform of the great hockey game to give back is very much who they are as a family. So it is only fitting that this caricature, which Dave artfully captures on paper, also captures his spirit of giving back to the Tampa Bay community he calls home. Thanks and GO BOLTS “
The piece is one of many Huynh has made over the years. Its walls are filled with his personal art, by players and coaches, some of which are even signed by their subjects.
“Just being here and watching the game was just exciting to see them finally get it back after 16 years,” he said.
