U.S. stock futures and Asian stocks fell after President Donald Trump said he and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for the new coronavirus.
Future contracts for both the S&P 500 and the Dow industrial stock lost 1.9%. Oil prices also fell.
Trump tweeted news about his test results just hours after the White House announced that Senior Adjutant Hope Hicks was infected with the virus after traveling with the President several times this week.
Trade in Asia was thin, and the Shanghai and Hong Kong markets were closed. The Nikkei 225 index fell sharply early after the Tokyo Stock Exchange resumed trading on Friday after a full-day outage due to a technical failure.
