PINELLAS PARK, Florida – Authorities said a 6-year-old boy was found safe at the center of an Amber Alert.
Earlier that evening, Pinellas Park police said Frederick Canady tried to steal two different vehicles in a McDonald’s parking lot at 7001 US-19 just before 7:30 p.m. After failing the first two times, he successfully robbed a light blue Kia Sedona from 2009. Police say the Kia Sedona was stolen after someone tried to intervene on the second attempt.
Police said he escaped with the woman and two young children, but a few hundred meters later he forced them all out of the minivan.
After Canady forced the three people out of the minivan, police said he drove out of the parking lot. During the carjacking, Canady had his 6-year-old nephew Marqus Perkins in his care. Police said Perkins had been with his uncle all day and the two came to the restaurant on bikes.
While Perkins did not participate in the carjacking, the little boy disappeared with his uncle in the stolen minivan, police say.
Before Perkins finally was surely foundAuthorities issued an Amber Alert for the little boy.
Officials did not say whether Canady was found.
