MIAMI — Tropical Depression 26 strengthened into Tropical Storm Delta, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Monday morning.
NHC said the system is likely to strengthen more over the next few days.
According to the NHC’s 8 a.m. update, the system is about 130 miles south of Negril, Jamaica, with winds of 40 mph. The system is moving west-northwest at 9 mph.
NHC says Delta is expected to be a hurricane when it moves near or over western Cuba on Tuesday afternoon or evening.
