MIAMI — Delta has strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane Monday night, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
According to NHC’s 8 p.m. update, Hurricane Delta is about 220 miles south-southeast of Grand Cayman while packing 75 mph winds and is moving west-northwest at 8 mph.
Tropical Storm Delta continues to strengthen over the northwestern Caribbean Sea, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Monday morning.
According to the NHC’s 11 a.m. update, the system is about 135 miles south of Negril, Jamaica, with winds of 45 mph. The system is moving west at 7 mph.
NHC says Delta is expected to be a hurricane when it moves near or over western Cuba on Tuesday afternoon or evening. The storm is then forecast to move into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico Tuesday night.
