TALLAHASSEE, Florida – A lawsuit filed by a group of voting rights groups calls for Florida to extend the state voter registration deadline for an additional two days.
The lawsuit against Governor Ron DeSantis and Secretary of State Laurel Lee will be brought before a judge in Tallahassee. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
The plaintiffs in the lawsuit – New Florida Majority, Dream Defenders and Florida Immigrant Coalition – argue with the current extension, which is set at 7:00 p.m. October 6th is not giving Floridians enough time to register online.
The lawsuit comes just a day after Floridians reported delays and errors occurred on the state’s online voter registration page. Lee said on social media Monday that the online problems were due to the high traffic.
