SARASOTA, Florida – Sarasota Memorial Hospital is a nationwide leader in recruiting inpatient clinical trials for COVID-19.
SMH has led the review of drugs like remdesivir, which are now used to fight COVID-19 in patients around the world.
The hospital has been conducting trials with the same antibody cocktail that President Trump recently used since August. Doctors say those who meet the requirements can get it with SMH too.
“Here in Sarasota, the average person who walks into the hospital can get the same treatment as the president. Start with remdesivir, the anti-body cocktail, and dexamethasone,” said Dr. Kirk Voelker, director of clinical research at SMH.
There are currently three types of clinical trials in the hospital. An inpatient study, an outpatient study, and a preventive study for people at risk to protect them from exposure.
Doctors hope the president’s treatment will encourage other COVID-positive people to want to participate in the studies.
