For many of us, we still use Zoom to communicate and hold meetings.

That was the same for a local New Tampa Girl Scout troop, everything was moved to virtual.

“One of the things we strive for as leaders is to support the next generation. They have to come back and support the community,” said Colleen Kurtz.

However, this weekend they will be hosting a personal event to give back to the community.

“We’re doing a drive-through food ride and only a few of us work on it. So we can help our community, but also keep our distance and wear masks and everything,” says Olivia Kurtz, a student at Freedom High School, but also a local girl scout.

The girls will have the socially distant food drive this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the West Meadows Club House in New Tampa.

You will collect the non-perishable food from cars and take it to the Feeding Tampa Bay Truck to help those struggling with food insecurity.

It is one of the first events held personally by the Boy Scouts since the pandemic began.
