BRADENTON, Fla. – Manatee County MPs are investigating vandalism on a county judge candidate’s car.
Kristy Zinna is running as a judge at the district court in the November elections. She said she noticed a corrosive substance on her car. There were brown and green puddles on the floor.
Her daughter noticed that the gas tank on her mother’s vehicle was wide open.
“Angry. I’m not scared, but I’m pretty crazy,” said Kristy Zinna.
Your Mercedes-Benz stays with a local dealer. She said mechanics believe it was paint remover and brake fluid that was poured on 75% of their vehicle.
“Everywhere in the back, on the side and front of the vehicle and on the chassis where the fault lines were … everything had been sprayed with the corrosive substance,” Zinna said.
Zinna also found liquid in the gas tank. MPs believe she has been targeted and has received no further reports of vandalism in the area.
“I believe 100% that I was targeted … It’s the car I use for work and campaign that was targeted,” she said.
MPs released a video from a neighbor’s surveillance camera showing a vehicle moving back and forth and then stopping in front of their home. According to MPs, the vandalism was not caught on camera.
“They found a dark SUV that drove past my house at around 2am, turned off the headlights, and then parked. A man got out at some point, looked at my house, got back in the car, pulled a little closer, and then got in my driveway and out of range of the camera, “she said.
Zinna said she installed surveillance cameras around her house following the vandalism.
“I now have cameras and a very good alarm system,” she said.
She said she would not be intimidated by anyone and continue the campaign.
“I want to serve the community. This is my home. I grew up in Manatee County. I attended elementary school here,” she said.
Zinna has worked for both the Manatee County attorney’s office and attorney’s office. She left government practice in 2013 and began practicing various areas of civil law.
Zinna runs against prosecutor Melissa Gould in the November election.
