The World Health Organization holds a briefing on the coronavirus pandemic on Friday as daily cases hit a new record worldwide.
The WHO reported 338,779 new cases of global coronavirus on Thursday, a record one-day increase led by a surge in infections in Europe.
So far, more than 36.5 million people worldwide have been infected with Covid-19, with more than 1 million people killed, according to Johns Hopkins University.
Earlier this week, Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO emergency program, “best estimates” suggest About 1 in 10 people worldwide may be infected with the coronavirus – more than 20 times the number of confirmed cases.
He said the numbers vary from city to country and between different groups, but ultimately it means that “the vast majority of the world is still at risk”.
