Delivery jobs are no longer limited to the post office and UPS’s box-shaped Pullman Brown trucks.

There are thousands of delivery appearances available nationwide, sourced from a variety of on-demand delivery apps. During the pandemic, delivery services boomed, which led to an increase in demand for delivery agents. The vast majority of delivery app jobs are rated 1099, which means the employees are independent contractors.

Overall, the requirements are very low. In many cases, all you need is a valid driver’s license and a working car with adequate auto insurance to make money.

However, the reality of delivery work is difficult. In addition to the work itself, there are issues with apps, customers tipping, and cars deteriorating. Pay may vary due to a number of factors beyond your control. And depending on your location, you may be earning less than the minimum wage.

Despite the downsides, many drivers love the job and find delivery apps to be a flexible source of extra cash in the short term. Each app works a little differently. We’ve analyzed the best, examining wages, pay frequency, work and vehicle requirements, dress code, driver ratings, and more to help you choose the best delivery app for your next side gig .

Delivery App Jobs

Here are the top candidates for parcel shipping gigs. Generally, these delivery jobs require larger vehicles due to the potential size of some orders. Heavy lifting may be required.

Amazon Flex

Package delivery is the latest in a long list of industries that the e-commerce giant has turned on its head. Currently there are delivery appearances with Amazon Flex are among the highest paid as the company guarantees hourly wages between $ 15 and $ 19, depending on the region. It is possible to earn more through efficiency and good tips.

At Flex, for most deliveries, you must sign up for shifts, also known as “blocks”. Blocks typically run for four hours at a time, unless the shift is specifically dedicated to Prime Now packages. These blocks are shorter.

Most Flex packages require an insured four-door sedan or SUV. Smaller cars are allowed for Prime Now blocks. You must be at least 21 years old to apply. No dress code or special materials are required to begin delivery.

New to the scene shipping is an on-demand parcel delivery app marketed to businesses. The service is currently available in 50 major cities and metropolitan areas and is being expanded further.

According to Glassdoor reviews, drivers make between $ 14 and $ 16 an hour. It is shipped weekly via an app called Stripe, offers additional car insurance and reimburses tolls along the delivery route.

You must be at least 23 years old to qualify. Your vehicle just needs to be in “fair condition”. Once accepted, Dispatch will provide you with a branded ID and hat that will be required during delivery.

Dispatch is the top rated delivery company on our list through Glassdoor. But it also has the lowest number of reviews.

Postmates

Postmates is known for delivering groceries, but most store-bought goods and packages are fair game too.

All car models are welcome as long as they are insured. You can also deliver by bike if you prefer. Wages vary based on location, demand and number of deliveries per hour. Several drivers said they made between $ 9 and $ 14 on Glassdoor. Hourly rates are not guaranteed by Postmates, but there is a basic fee per order and tips go 100% to the drivers.

There are postmates in more than 400 cities. The company does not offer additional car insurance and does not require a dress code.

You must be at least 18 years old to apply.

Uber has completed the acquisition of Postmates. Nothing will change for couriers for now, but Uber may announce how the acquisition will affect its gig staff in early 2021.

Food Delivery App Jobs

Many well-known delivery apps specialize in the delivery of groceries. This is how they work

BiteSquad

BiteSquad was one of the few gig apps that hired their employees as W-2 employees. However, that practice ended in February 2020 after Waitr bought the company and upgraded its delivery drivers to independent contractor status.

As a BiteSquad Driver, you must wear a branded hat and shirt when you work. BiteSquad will deliver your clothes, but you will need to purchase a hot bag.

Due to the strict dress code and shift work, it’s not realistic to deliver for other apps while BiteSquad is planned. Delivery orders are available in 14 states. All you need is an insured, reliable vehicle and a clean driving record.

DoorDash

Overall, the demands on Dasher are low. The minimum age is 18 years and you can deliver with any properly insured vehicle. There is no dress code and the company provides a hot bag for free. Payment is weekly, or early access to your balance through Fast Pay for a fee.

DoorDash is available in all 50 states.

Recently, the company has seen some important changes. As of September 2019, All Dashers (DoorDash drivers) receive 100% of their tipsplus an increase in the base salary per order. DoorDash has also acquired the grocery shipping company Caviar and combined the services. With the DoorDash app, drivers can select either Caviar or DoorDash orders. The driver app for Caviar no longer exists and is now directed via the Dasher app.

In August 2020 DoorDash announced that it offers grocery delivery services in a handful of major cities in the Midwest and along the west coast – which adds to the opportunities Dashers can earn.

Glassdoor rating:: 3.7 out of 5.

GrubHub

GrubHub operates in more than 4,000 cities. Depending on the location, the company guarantees hourly wages. Motorists typically make between $ 12 and $ 15 an hour and keep 100% of their tips. GrubHub pays weekly.

Wages can be accessed early via Grubhub Instant Cash Out and a partnership with Chase Bank. Early withdrawal is free if you have a Chase bank account, otherwise 50 cents per transaction.

Car insurance and a reliable vehicle are required, and drivers must be at least 19 years old. There is no dress code. While the company recommends its drivers use a hot bag for deliveries, it does not provide one.

Uber eats

You just have to be the legal driving age in your state to drive Uber eats.

A two or four door car from 1999 or later is required, as is auto insurance. Uber offers additional coverage with a deductible of $ 1,000. Scooters and bicycles are accepted in some regions.

You make around $ 10 to $ 15 an hour and you can keep all of your tips. Payment is automatic every week, or you can pay a fee to get early access to your earnings with Instant Pay. You will need a hot bag for deliveries, but the company does not provide one.

One notable advantage: drivers can switch between Uber and Uber Eats with the same app.

Uber Eats operates in all 50 states.

Grocery Delivery App Jobs

Delivering groceries can be a little more time consuming and laborious than delivering groceries or packages. Typically, these appearances include an additional step: shopping for the items. You must also be able to lift and carry heavy loads.

But the extra effort could pay off with better tips.

Instacart

Instacart offers part-time W-2 jobs as well as independent delivery appearances.

The part-time positions have no delivery component, they are only in the business. In-store shoppers work in partner grocery stores preparing orders for delivery.

Full-service buyers are independent contractual partners who also shop depending on the order. Full-service customers say they made between $ 10 and $ 14 an hour and keep all of their tips. Instacart pays weekly.

To become a full service buyer, you need a reliable vehicle with auto insurance. Instacart does not offer additional insurance coverage or insulated bags. No dress code is required.

Performances are available in all 50 states.

To start delivery shippingYou must be at least 18 years old and drive an insured vehicle built in 1997 or later. You can expect to make $ 10-16, depending on your location, and you’ll pocket all of your tips.

We ship every week by direct deposit, but you will not be able to access your balance until then.

A branded Shipt-Shirt is the only uniform requirement that the company provides free of charge. However, reusable groceries and insulated bags are yours.

GoPuff

GoPuff is a new general store delivery service that currently operates in more than 500 cities in 38 states. At most locations, the services are available around the clock, which means that the delivery appearances also take place.

There is no shopping as the goods are locally sourced GoPuff Warehouses that are not customer oriented. Warehouse workers plan your shifts and prepare orders for you.

You must be at least 21 years old and have an insured vehicle (any model) to deliver for GoPuff. Drivers typically make $ 10-14 an hour and keep 100% of their tips. GoPuff guarantees an hourly minimum wage that varies by location.

Paid alcohol delivery training is required in some areas.
